Last First Day of School Jitters

I have always been the sort of person that enjoyed school growing up. I loved everything about it. From shopping for brand new school supplies, to learning new and exciting things, to meeting and making new friends, even to the way the old textbooks smelled was a treasure trove of enjoyment to me, but nothing compared to the first day of school! The exciting feeling of waking up that morning and not knowing what exactly to expect, except that whatever the next year held was bound to be wonderful has always been a point of exhilaration in my life.  This past Wednesday I had my very last first day of school as a student, and my very first day of school as a student-teacher! It was exciting and slightly sad all at the same time. To think that my college career at The University of Kentucky is quickly coming to a close and the beginning of my teaching career is fast approaching is of course a momentous thought. At the same time though, to think that something that I have worked so hard for, for so long is about to be completed and a new era of my life is about to start is also a bit nerve wrecking. There is so much unknown. So much unseen. So much newness ahead. Sometimes it can be overwhelming to think about. Sometimes it seems like too much change to take in at once.

Then I remember what the first day of school is like. The excitement that comes with the first morning of not exactly knowing what will take place that day, that week, that month or even that year, but having the assurance that whatever it is, is bound to be wondersome. That through the new experiences and challenges I am given I am bound to grow exponentially, all the more becoming the woman that I am created to be, the woman that I am destined to become! Then the dauntingly unexpected doesn’t seem so much of a burden as it does a blessing.

So this past Wednesday was my official last first day of school as a student but it was not my last first day of life. Every day is a first day in the school of life and there will be many more first days to come. Whether they seem new or mundane they all count towards our future; every moment, every breath. So wake up every morning, no matter what your situation is, determined to make that day a great first day! Be determined to discover all the new lessons life has to offer that will nurture you into a better person, teach you fresh perspectives and ground you more in your beliefs… Or as my Aunt B always tells me “Bloom where you are planted!”

Our Marriage Mission

Well, here it is – my first blog post on A Pair of Pomeroys! My bride does an incredible job communicating and keeping everyone informed of the latest happenings. I thought it might be my turn to take a crack at writing. So please bear with me as I cover the woman I love with uplifting words and hope for our future…

As I’m sure you know, we are now coming up on our two-year anniversary and I have had plenty of time to reflect on the past years as well as look forward to the future. I have watched Blair grow into a confident, loving, respectful, woman of God with incredible integrity and desire for God’s will be done. I am blown away whenever I think about how blessed I truly am. She is a constant reminder of God’s great beauty and grace. I have never met a woman before Blair that made me want to be better, every day.  It’s safe to say that after God, she is my inspiration. The reason I do what I do. I used to think I could do it all on my own, but now I know I couldn’t have been more wrong.

We believe every marriage must have a mission. If marriage is about two becoming one, then the mission is to do something far greater than a single individual could ever imagine, let alone accomplish. It has taken some time to figure it out, but we know the mission for our marriage is simple: Leave a legacy.

Think about that… It’s a monumental task that we have been given. The stakes are too high to not take this chance seriously. Today. For me, A Pair of Pomeroys is a physical representation of our marriage and how we have made ourselves available to build into the lives of other couples and families. In many ways this is a great step of courage for our marriage. We have opened up an outlet where the talents that God has given us can flow out and into the lives of others It is an area we have wholly given to God for him to make into whatever he wants. For Blair and I, it was a great step of faith. One that I know will be used for His kingdom. We seek to build into the lives of all around us and later on, our children. But that comes later…

I said all of that to say – I am so thrilled to be entering into our third year of marriage and I know we will be reaching new heights and accomplishing things we never thought we could. The third year will be the year Blair turns from student to teacher (literally) when she graduates. We will be looking for opportunities to move wherever God wants us and we have faith that doors will be opened as we receive a glimpse of His plan. He will put us where we can accomplish our mission, because it’s not about us. It’s about Him!

Thanks for reading!

Mr. and Mrs. Joel Price Jr.

A couple weeks ago Matt and I not only had the pleasure of attending the beautiful wedding of our friends Rachael and Joel Price but also were given the privilege to serve them with our talents by creating their wedding invitations, RSVP cards and programs. We absolutely love when we are given the opportunity to utilize the creative outlets that God has blessed us with, but it makes it that much sweeter when we can share these abilities with our dear loved ones. For those of you who don’t know Rachael and Joel personally, allow me to tell you a little bit about this wonderful couple! Rachael and I have been friends since we were twelve years old. She is one of the most charismatic, fun loving, passionate and caring people I have ever had to pleasure of knowing. When there is something going on in life that I don’t exactly know how to handle, I know I can come to Rachael and she will give me her full attention as well as wonderful wise words to help me come up with a solution. Joel on the other hand is very laid back and mellow but don’t be fooled, he is a go-getter that knows what he wants in life and goes after it with his whole heart; hence how he was the lucky guy who landed Rachael as his wife. Together these two could take on the world! They have such an amazing life ahead of them! One with lots of purpose and intentionality. One filled with the greatest joys, the strongest love and the most enduring hope. Matt and I are so looking forward to watching as their life unfolds and the plans that God has for them play out! So when they came to us back in December and asked if we would be willing to work with them and design their wedding set there was only one answer; of course!
Rachael and Joel had been planning their wedding for over a year so they had a pretty good idea of what they were envisioning for their big day. The color pallet they had chosen was a soft blush pink, paired with cream and charcoal grey along with hints of mint. A few words used to describe their wedding would be elegant, romantic, charming and timeless, yet with very subtle modern details. To accomplish this feel in the invitation set we used a cream back drop on the finest heavy card stock available. Then added bold charcoal and soft blush stripes along the edges that would coordinate with the darker charcoal font used for the type; softening and romanticizing the entire set. We also used a mixture of fonts hand picked to coordinate perfectly with the over all feel of timeless elegance and lend a sense of old world charm along with a very slight modern twist; such as the large cursive monogram of the couples name at the top. We also made the sets double sided to minimize over crowding so that the areas Matt had purposely intended to catch the readers eye would do so without any interference.

We had such a wonderful experience designing Rachael and Joel’s wedding set and were overjoyed that we were able to capture the vision for their special day in this significant way. Congratulations Mr. and Mrs. Joel Price Jr! Here’s to many more memories being made!

Becoming A Pair of Pomeroys: Design and Print

As some of you might already know Matt’s been using his God-given talent in the graphic arts by designing various items for friends and family for a little over a couple of years now. It wasn’t until recently though that we sat down and really discussed legitimately opening up a small business, and marketing ourselves as such. Not to say that the idea had never come up before, but rather one of us would be willing and the other would have hesitations for some reason or another; this time though was different. Our ideas, viewpoints and opinions on the topic both lined up perfectly. For those of you who are married you know that is not an easy, or merely human, feat. We personally believe it was leading of the Holy Spirit calling us both to use our unique set of talents and abilities to do His will, ultimately bringing glory and honor to Him, through our teamwork as husband and wife. From the beginning there was no doubt in either of our minds that this was God lead, even if we didn’t know exactly what it would turn out to be. There was just a sense of peace over the conversations that transpired as this dream unfolded. As we talked about the ins and outs of what it would take to begin this journey, we quickly realized that God had already provided everything we would need between the two of us. Matt had the creativity that had kept customers happy for years. I had the organization, time management and interpersonal skills to keep everything running at a steady and manageable pace. And we both are warm, compassionate, flexible people who take an interest in fully understanding what others needs are and do our best to seek to meet them. Plus, we would become business partners with our best friend! The one we laugh with, cry with, pray with, are not afraid to tell anything to, and know is in this relationship for life, each other!
Though we definitely felt this was something The Lord had laid out before us, choosing to take the leap of faith, and begin this venture together, was entirely our decision. We both felt very strongly about utilizing our talents to create for families during the hallmark moments that take place during a persons life, such as getting engaged, getting married, graduating, buying a home, having children and much more. The reason being that we are a family and know how meaningful these mile markers in life can be. We love seeing the impact that we have on another families life as these memorable events take place. We love being able to serve them in a unique and significant way through being apart of something that is important to them and bigger than ourselves. We love being able to use the skills we have been blessed with to provide others with a one of a kind, high quality product that they will cherish, reflect on and evoke warm loving memories from every time they come across it. We love getting to represent what it means to be considerate, honest, hardworking and ultimately run a business of integrity in a world that seems to be growing more distant from these values. And of course we utterly enjoy getting to be a living example of how ones spouse is their greatest supporter, encourager and teammate in all of life’s great adventures!
As for deciding on a name to go by we wanted something that spoke truth about how we are a husband and wife team. Something that alluded to how it takes the two of us working side by side, giving our all, to keep everything, not only in this business but our life, functioning in perfect order. Something that would evoke warmth and a sense of home, not only in us but our customers as they came to know our little family on a more personal level. A name that we could be identified with in the business world that would speak volumes about our beliefs, morals and values which we hold not only as business partners, but as a family. Thus, A Pair of Pomeroys: Design & Print was born!
We couldn’t be more thrilled to see what God brings out of this new facet in our relationship, whether that be rapid success or moderate, modest development; we really have no set expectations. Although, one thing is certain to come of this endeavor, and that is exponential growth in our marriage, strengthening and deepening the bonds between the two of us on a level that we have never breached before! And In our opinion that is the greatest gain we could ever ask for!

Much Love,
Matt & Blair
