This month was full of fall favorites to escort in the fresh season full of beautiful colors, yummy smells, crisp air and comfy clothing!
Visit to Lexington – At the beginning of the month I got to go down and see some of my sweet Lexington sisters for breakfast. Though these ladies live all over the country now they still hold such a special place in my heart. They have walked with Matt and I through the early stages of our marriage and some of the most difficult trials we have ever had to face all the while praying, encouraging us and giving us sound biblical advice on how to handle situations that were tricky to say the least like Jesus. Bonds forged in the Spirit aren’t ones that are easily broken, especially by a little distance. This early morning breakfast was extra special though because we got to meet the newest little member of our framily, Miss Sawyer Peterson! She was every bit as precious as she could possibly be and her mama was absolutely glowing as always! 🙂 It was such a wonderful morning filled with laughter, girl talk, coffee both decaf and regular, and some yummy breakfast dishes! Every time I write about our monthly morning breakfast I always wish I had a photo of these amazing women and our outing in and out, but then I remember just what an incredible time we were all having and how in moments like those no one is thinking about snapping a picture because you are truly just enjoying every second of that relationship and time with each other. And that my friends is way more worth a photo could ever capture. 🙂
Chad and Stephanie’s Wedding – We began this month by attending our friends Stephanie and Chad’s beautiful wedding! I still remember when they first began dating and how Stephanie talked about how different Chad was then any other guy she had ever dated in the past. How sweet and compassionate he was. I still remember meeting Chad for the first time and seeing how wonderful he was for Stephanie! How he put her needs before his own. It’s so wonderful to see where God has lead them in their journey together and to see them take this next step into marriage! We just know God has some wonderful plans for them in store.
Matt officially started his new position at Citi – God has been so abundantly good to our family during this surprising, unpredictable season of life. With as adventuresome as it has been though there has been a constant peace over our family thats settled our house hold and set the pace for us as we move into this new season. Even though we weren’t exactly sure, and to be honest are we ever really, how God’s plans will play out we know we can always trust His will and that what He has planned is for His glory and our upmost good because our hearts are aligned with His. So when Matt was given the opportunity to apply and eventually accept a promotion at his job we were thrilled when we heard God telling us to take this chance and that it was His way of further providing for our family. Our basic needs were already met through Matt’s current position but with the extra income that we will be making from his new promotion we will be able to also save and invest in our retirement and our daughters newly started college fund now, without Blair needing to work so she can stay home and invest in our daughter. She’s still planning on starting an in home daycare though because we both still feel called to her working with and blessing other families and discipling the children God puts in her pathway through teaching as well as our own. 🙂 It’s nice to know that if things weren’t to pan out for whatever reason though that God has definitely provided a way for her to stay home with our main focus in discipleship now, our daughter. As for Matts first few weeks in his new position, they have been going great! God has already shown so much favor to him in this facet of his work place and He continues to do so! It reminds us a lot of Daniels story in the bible when God chose to use him and therefore gave him favor with the king. It’s definitely all a God thing and for us to take credit would be misplaced. All we’ve done it continue to obey as we seek out what God would have us do, which moves He calls us to make and which ones He calls us to leave behind.
Apple Fest – Though this wasn’t the first time we’ve been to Evan’s Orchard together it was our first time going to their regionally famous Apple Fest! We usually go once every Autumn to pick Apples for some yummy Apple Crisp, a few Butternut Squashes for Butternut Squash Soup and a couple Pumpkins to carve with friends and sit on our front porch. We’ve been to their Big Pumpkin Carry at the end of the season and other times when there were no festivals going on but we figured this time it would be fun to see what Apple Fest is like since we were going to be in the area for The UK Alumni Game anyways.
It was so much fun, just like Evans Orchard always is! It’s one of our family traditions that we are really looking forward to bringing our daughter along to next year and every year after to include her in our memory making! We can’t wait to carry her around in the crisp fall air, take her to the petting zoo and see the excitement and amazement on her face as she touches the animals. To watch as she plays on the hay bails and big tire tractors in the play yard and share a carmel apple and apple cider with her as a snack, which were fairly certain she will love because of the amount her mama has been craving and eating of them right now lol And of course one day help her pick apples of her own by hoisting her up on his shoulders to reach the ones that were far beyond her tiny stature! 🙂
UK Alumni Game – Earlier in August Matt heard about how all the recent alumni players that have went pro after leaving UK decided to come back and play a game against the alumni players of NCU in Rupp Arena and that all the procedes would go to charity. So he decided to surprise me by buying us tickets for a date night to see them play! It was so much fun! We had such a great time spending the entire day in Lexington doing all the things that we used to love to do while we lived there during our newlywed college days. After Apple Fest at Evans Orchard we went and had a late lunch at Bella Notte then after the game we each got a piece of pie from Missy’s to take home with us back to Northern Kentucky. It was about as perfect as a day in Lexington can get.. and is definitely another one of our family traditions that we look forward to including Sweet P in next year! We can’t wait to dress her up in the cute UK gear and put a big blue bow in her hair! To teach her the cheers and UK fight song so she can cheer on our Cats along with us!.. and to practice them in the car on the way down lol To sit there in the stands and teach her about the game of Basketball and who the players names are. To hear her choose a favorite player, if she has one and to take her out to Cane’s either before hand or afterwards for dinner! And drive around UK’s campus telling her about each place that meant something special to us or how the campus has changed since we were young college sweetheart students! 🙂
Craft nights with Hollie – My friend Hollie is one of the most creative women I know. Even since we were little she’s always had a knack for coming up with cute, fun decorative ideas and planning some of the most fun sleepovers I’ve ever been too! Fast forward to present day and she literally plans events for a living and is amazing at it! Really it’s quite the talent! So when she offered to help with throwing Matt and I a baby shower I was so excited to spend some quality girl time with her crafting and catching up just like when we were younger.
Weekend trip to Pennsylvania – Towards the middle of the month we took our last trip before the birth of our daughter this December to visit family in Pennsylvania. It was such a fun weekend trip from start to finish! We went with my Aunt B and Uncle Doug up to Grove City College to visit my cousins, Ciara, Savannah and Emily and see where they go to school! And after spending the day in Grove City we can definitely see why they are all smitten with Grove and chose to go there. The Campus is absolutely beautiful, complete with an enchanting chapel and in the middle of a quaint college town! Then after visiting Grove we went to The Pennsylvania Amish Farm Country! It was so much fun driving through the beautiful countryside and purchasing some of the best looking produce we have ever seen or tasted in our entire lives!
Watching a baby girl move from the outside for the first time – In the lobby of the doctors office, while we were waiting for our Glucose Test results and working on baby shower invitations, we witnessed our sweet little princess P move from the outside for the first time! It was the most amazing thing to witness, the see her movement underneath my shirt as I felt her moving in my belly! Since that day we’ve watched her move multiple times daily, especially when were quietly sitting in bed together reading or talking about our day.
Third Trimester – This month we officially went into our 28th week of pregnancy/ our third and final trimester!!! To say we are excited would only tell of part of the emotions we are feeling lately, the main part but still only part.. and it would be an understatement! Excitement, joy, love, anticipation, peace.. those words are all accurate but at the same time don’t even come close to describing how we feel with each passing day that we get closer to meeting our daughter on the outside instead of just getting to know her from the inside lol They are the closest thing we have in our language though to depict the immense amount of those emotions that we are at this stage, so there the best we can do to describe it to you. Still though, it feels lacking. We guess it’s one of those things that you can’t really truly describe in its entirety to people. They just have to experience it in all its beautiful complexity on their own.
Weekend in – The last weekend of September we decided to spend in and around our home checking a bunch of boxes off of our fall homeowners to-do list, like weed eating and prunning for the last time before the winter comes. We also bought a ladder so that Matt can clean the gutters and hang Christmas lights this year, cleaned out and organized the garage, made a trip to Goodwill and our first round of Mompoms Apple Crisp, which is a seasonal favorite in our home, and Chili and Cornbread for dinner! We also, did a little fall crafting by taking an old window that we brought with us from Lexington, and turned it into a picture frame that now hangs in our foyer as well as did a little home improvement and took off the old glass shower doors that used to cover up the shower in the upstairs hall bath, so that it will be easier for us to give our baby girl a bath once she’s here in just a couple months!
Much love & prayer,
Matt & Blair
